Isn't there something exciting and special about seeing a movie outdoors? Did you know that years ago we had drive-ins where you could sit in your car at a parking lot to watch a movie? These drive-in movie theaters were very popular. Also, did you know that the very first drive-in movie theater was in Pennsauken, NJ, outside of Camden back in 1933? Growing up, I had the opportunity to see movies at our local ones in Livingston and Union. We'd wear comfy clothes and pack up some snacks, beverages, pillows, and toys to enjoy a good screening.
These days, the few that are left are further afield, such as ones in Vineland, NJ (last one in our state), the Poconos in PA, & in Warnick, NY. Some pop-up drive-ins in NJ are known to happen. And sure, you may host one in your backyard with family & friends. But, the closest experience is a shared community outdoor movie.
Luckily for us, there are many options this summer. More may be added to this list as they are announced. Bookmark this page and check back!
