National Night Out is an annual event, started in 1984, to promote neighborhood camaraderie and police-community partnerships.
Since then, millions of people in 16,000 communities have taken part in National Night Out events such as block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and various other community events.
This year, National Night Out takes place in Summit Short Hills SoMa the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Summit Short Hills SoMa National Night Out events happening in 2022 include:
- Chatham NNO: Community Night BBQ
- Florham Park NNO: Activities at the Rec. Center including Helicopter Landing (conditions permitting)
- Livingston NNO: Tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides benefitting Shiv's Third Eye
- Maplewood NNO: Mini-car show and bounce houses
- Millburn NNO: Public Safety Vehicles and game truck
- South Orange National Night Out 2022
- Summit NNO: K-9 and other demos, free hot dogs
- Union NNO: Police HQ Tours and Dunk-A-Cop Dunk Tank
