Our kids live in a competitive world, with intense pressure to achieve success in sports and academics. Camp Riverbend is a place where kids can just be kids, where they can learn new skills and discover new interests. Riverbend celebrates each child’s individuality and is committed to finding what makes each child uniquely themselves.
Camp Riverbend has a beautiful 30-acre site on the Passaic River in Warren Township (Somerset County). It’s a perfect place for explorers of all ages, with woods, fields, beautiful nature trails, a wetlands sanctuary, athletic facilities, and the riverbank. Campers have opportunities to discover birds, animals, and insects and try basic science experiments to learn about the natural world, in addition to all the other sports, crafts and activities offered.
Riverbend offers programs for preschoolers to 9th graders. 2022 season enrollment is now open and limited spaces are still available.
The Breene family has been running Camp Riverbend for 60 years. Founded by Marianne and Harold Breene in 1962, the camp is now run by their four adult children and grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren are campers now. The family is on site all day, supervising every aspect of the amp operation. With a foundation of years of experience and knowledge, the Breene family has achieved a perfect balance between preserving treasured camp traditions and embracing new technologies and modern practices.
With a ratio of one counselor for every 5 campers, your child is assured lots of T.L.C. and attention. There are no counselors in training; the staff is made up of a talented group of dedicated teachers and bright, enthusiastic college students. Many of them are former Riverbend campers themselves.
Camp tuition includes either bus transportation or a place in the extended day program. Kids ride in school buses with a supervising counselor and everyone wears a seat belt. And no more packing lunches! Camp Riverbend provides kid friendly options for lunch that are healthy and approved by the camp dietitian. They also have an “allergy aware” kitchen that can accommodate a variety of food allergies, including gluten, dairy, nut, sesame and egg allergies. Snacks are included too!.
Swimming is one of the most important skills a child can learn and Riverbend takes teaching water skills seriously. Four outdoor heated pools range in depth from 1 foot to 11 feet to accommodate swimmers at every level. Campers participate in daily swim lessons and also get to enjoy a “free swim” period in the afternoons.
The High Ropes Challenge Course features a 30-foot tower with three different climbing challenges and a zip line. Riverbend’s philosophy of “challenge by choice” lets each child decide just how much of a challenge they want to experience. This thrilling activity is a great way to boost a child’s self-esteem and make them feel strong and empowered! There’s even a mini zipline and climbing wall for the littlest campers But that’s not all--Riverbend offers all kinds of sports, crafts, outdoor activities and modern favorites like cooking and yoga.
Kids leave Camp Riverbend with the most important gift of all: friendships. Riverbend is a place where long-lasting friendships develop and grow.
