I don't know about you but I. LOVE. BREAKFAST. It thrills me that my children also love it and, in my opinion, it's one of the most painless meals "out" with kids. Here are 5 local places you can breakfast and brunch with your littles!
1. Sorriso Kitchen (Chatham)
The food is great at Sorriso (DO NOT MISS the breakfast potatoes or the maple bacon beauties) with plenty of kid-friendly options, but I have to say the best thing about Sorriso is the people. First of all, the mission of the owners is to help students with special needs and they close every Monday to serve as a teaching classroom for ECLC of NJ. Secondly, the people actually working in the restaurant are just the nicest, happiest people and they genuinely seem to love having kids there.
2. Jackie + Son (South Orange)
Jackie + Son features a great coffee, smoothie, and fresh juice menu as well as a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-inspired breakfast and lunch menu that pays homage to owner Jackie's Israeli-Arab family. On the menu you'll see traditional American breakfast fare (stepped up a notch) but also specialties like hummus, shakshuka, and halloumi. Something for the whole family!
3. Prestige Diner (New Providence)
Prestige is about as traditional as diners get but it has the BEST mozzarella sticks ever (they're homemade - don't miss them!). The kids' menu is great and well-priced, and if a child reads a book from the collection brought in by the library during their meal, their meal is free! Major bonus? There's a full bar.
4. The Committed Pig (Summit)
A giant kids' menu featuring options like cookie dough pancakes and cinnamon crunch French toast, The Committed Pig also has equally fun fare for adults, too. Plenty of high chairs, drinks out of mason jars, huge waffle fries, and al fresco dining make this a great spot to come with kids.
5. True Salvage Cafe (Maplewood)
Check their social media for daily menus because they change all the time! The space is beautiful and outfitted with many items from owner David Heffernan's personal collection of art amassed after 50 years in the art industry. With most menu items made from scratch, great coffee, and multiple online reviews calling it a "hidden gem," this is a can't-miss local spot.
