A fun night out: Wine + Weave with Indigo Road Studio

By Julie Lepore, Macaroni Kid Summit / SOMA / Short Hills publisher July 17, 2019

I first learned of Indigo Road Studio through Facebook and did a feature on Lindsey for NJ Makers Day so when she announced she was holding weaving workshops I was super excited to jump on board.

Lindsey has TWO upcoming Wine + Weave workshops this summer. Check her out on Facebook or Instagram @indigo_road_studio for more details and to sign up for the workshops! I HIGHLY recommend them for all skill levels for a girls' night, a unique date night, or even a solo self-care night!

The workshops are held in Lindsey's home and she had some delicious appetizers and wine set out when we got there. The space itself is so inspiring because all of her own wall weavings are hung throughout the house, her beautiful pottery is on display (and I may or may not have bought a planter right off her windowsill, plant and all), and even some of her furniture pieces that she's painted and finished herself.

Lindsey's amazing pottery and a few weavings on display!

After a few minutes of chatting in the kitchen we moved to the living room to get a closer look at several of Lindsey's own weavings that she had laid out for us to touch and get ideas from, get a basic rundown of the weavings we were making, and to select our yarn. All the materials are included in the class price and Lindsey has a ton of yarn in all colors to choose from.

Once we we were sufficiently inspired and had chosen our base yarn to work with, we went to the dining room where all our looms were laid out. Lindsey also made all these looms herself because. she is. a boss.

We each sat down to very well illustrated instructions for a few different techniques we were going to learn to complete our weaving. Important to note that Lindsey is an actual art teacher so she's very skilled at providing appropriate guidance so her students can succeed. She said we were great students and that she was pretty surprised at the quality of our work, but I'm pretty sure, as first-time weavers, our work is more of a reflection of her quality as a teacher than our own skill. She did a variety of demonstration, hands-on helping, and letting us work on our own to develop the skill independently.

For me, I found weaving extremely satisfying. It's a really quick craft and, if you make a mistake, it's super easy and quick to undo it. It has the same meditative qualities as something like knitting but there's less at stake.

By the end of the class, I think all of us were comfortable enough with the techniques that we'd be able to do it on our own and also were all interested in a second class to learn more advanced techniques. I, personally, haven't stopped asking my husband to make me a loom since returning from my class and I know my fellow students feel the same. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our workshop!

Our creations! So fun to see everybody's personality come through in their weaving choices!

The aftermath! Yarn everywhere!

If you're looking for a really fun girls' night or date night or just a night for yourself (!!), this is a great option and you can come away with a new fun skill. Check Lindsey out on Facebook or Instagram @indigo_road_studio for more details and to sign up for the workshops!

I was provided this class for free in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
