Longtime subscribers know that I often write about how I like to compare and contrast different versions and adaptations of a story with my kids. It really gets the creative juices flowing as everyone in the family thinks about how they’d portray their favorite book characters in their own movie, play or Broadway Musical. A great case in point: Theatreworks USA Production of Seussical at Mayo Performing Arts Center is a combination of quite a few beloved Dr. Seuss stories in musical form, and it will surely delight your kids to see some of their favorite stories on stage (while also getting them to wonder if the stories “look” and “sound” as they'd previously imagined!)
Adapted from the Broadway version, this Seussical is especially tailored for young audiences ages 4 - 10 years-old. The Cat in the Hat serves as the host and emcee as he dances and sings through classics such as Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham and Gertrude McFuzz. With music and lyrics by the critically acclaimed team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, everyone in the family will be humming and singing all the way home (while also maybe being inspired to make up some new songs of their own).
The show is at Mayo Performing Arts Center on Monday, April 11th at 4:00PM (Spring Break week for a lot of school districts in the area).
