The sun is out, the rain has stopped for now and everything is good, right?Sometimes, I just feel as if I am behind the eight-ball and this is one of the those weeks. Sorry the newsletter is so delayed, next week's should be better and out by early Friday morning at the latest.

MK Delicioso: Cinco de Mayo Cookies


This easy craft is fun for kids to do!

Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for the fifth of May and remembers the day in 1862 when Mexico's army had an unlikely victory over the French.  Ironically, the holiday is not widely celebrated in Mexico...but we sure enjoy it here!  This cookie is a tasty and easy way to celebrate.  Olé.

 

What you need:

Refrigerated Sugar Cookie dough (we use the kind in a tube...but you could use your own dough and cut them into circles)

Multi-colored Non-pareils

Frosting

Gum Drops

 

To make:

Bake cookies as directed ...

Make your own maracas to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!

Kids will love this fun and easy Cinco de Mayo craft.  Use paper or styrofoam cups and beans/rice to make musical maracas.

 

What you will need:

- 2 styrofoam or paper cups

- colored tape or hot glue gun

- paints in various colors

- decorative accents such as pom-poms, buttons, sequins, stickers, etc

- glue

- rice or beans or unpopped popcorn kernels

 

What to do:

- Fill one cup with rice and/or beans and/or unpopped popcorn kernels; you only need a handful inside the cup

- Turn the other cup over and place ...

Children's Book Week is the time to celebrate the choices you have at the library and bookstore.  Come to the Hilton Writing Lab to write stories inspired by famous authors like Lemony Snicket, Katharine Patterson and Mo Williams. We have the starters, bring your creativity.
