Welcome to Macaroni Kid!

Proudly covering South Orange, Maplewood, Livingston, West Orange & the surrounding towns

What a crazy week!  I know I say that a lot, but on Monday I was outside watering our new grass on that very windy day, when 10 minutes later an enormous limb fell from what looked to be a very healthy tree - right where I was standing.  Needless to say, I am very happy to be alive, I had not even taken my shoes off before I heard the crash. Now, Well Done Tree Service is here working on removing the tree and they are amazing.  If you need a tree removed, I highly recommend them and they are reasonable too. - They did not give me or trade me anything to say that.

So we have FOUR giveaways going on right now. Before I go into the current giveaways, I have two winners to announce.  The winner of the Brittany Ostrov Photography giveaway was Suzanne H. and the winner of the Kidorable Umbrella was Jackie B. Still going on...LeapFrog LeapPad giveaway. Note: If I do not get more than 25 entries.  I will not be able to run this contest, and all participants will be given another prize. This is one of the hottest toys around.  Here's a link to an article that talks about this toy.

Love to travel? We are giving away 12 sets of tickets to the Macaroni Kid Family Travel Expo in Manhattan on May 6. The first 12 people that sign up, the tickets are yours! Only adults need tickets. It sounds like a amazing event with activities and giveaways!  Some tickets are already gone! Click here to enter.

We have teamed up with Willow Lake Day Camp to do a huge giveaway.  A truly amazing camp! One winner will receive $2,000 towards towards 2012 tuition for one lucky camper and $1,000 for another winner. All of the details can be found here.

TADA! Youth Theater Camp is giving away one week of Summer Camp to parent of one very lucky budding star. This is a very special program in at a child focused professional theater in Manhattan. For additional information, please click here.

Update on the new lifestyle/diet - I have now lost 21 pounds and 11 inches, but I finally have a moment of weakness. I am hoping to get right back on the wagon - but I do not do so well with diet setbacks - we'll see.

The sponsor for this week's newsletter is Children's Orthopeadic & Sports Medicine Center. I have had the pleasure of working with COSMC for over a year now and although I have yet to take my son to them (knock-on-wood), I can honestly say they are amazing.  I am a member of some local groups and when someone requests the name of a child orthopedist, they always end up at the top of the list.  To learn more at COSMC, click here. Now that the warmer weather is here, they have also contributed an article that can help you avoid and dealing with injuries. I keep their phone number in my wallet, just in case!

MK Safety: SAFE AT HOME

Help keep kids out of harm’s way this summer with these safety tip

You know the old children’s retort about sticks and stones? It may be true, but kids face other things that can hurt them too. The risk of injury tends to increase in the summer, as children frequently spend a lot of time outside, attend camps, or participate in one or more sports. To promote summer safety, follow these tips.

•  In addition to being more active in summer months, kids also tend to grow a lot. Make sure your child takes in enough calcium (from vitamins, milk, ice cream, etc ...

MK Reminder: Bicycle Helmets are a MUST!

With the weather breaking and summer upon us, there is no better time for a bike ride! But before you let your little ones hop on, make sure their top is properly guarded for safety.

Every year nearly 300,000 children end up in the hospital emergency room from bike injuries, some of them to the head. Wearing a helmet doesn't stop children from being reckless, but it does provide some protection for their head and brain in the event of a fall.

The U.S. government thinks that ...
